Cell Line AuthenticationAs part of our molecular services, we offer authentication of human cell lines. Authentication of cell lines is used to reveal their possible replacement or cross-contamination, which represent a serious problem of present biomedical research. It has been estimated that inaccurately defined cell lines are used in the experiments of 15%-20% of published scientific papers while this portion has been still rising (see here for further information). Authentication of cell lines is based on STR analysis, thus a method well established at GENERI BIOTECH. In STR analysis, the so called "short tandem repeat" segments of genomic DNA of the tested cell line are compared with the same segments of the cell line with confirmed identity. STR profiles of some cell lines are available directly at GENERI BIOTECH, others are published by their suppliers (ATCC, ECACC).

Terms of deliveryThe results of cell line authentication are dispatched by post or via e-mail in the PDF format within 10 working days upon receipt of your samples. The result of authentication is represented by confirmation or exclusion of the cell line identity. In the case that replacement or cross-contamination is shown and the STR profile of the given cell line is found in a publicly accessible database, we perform identification of the line.
How to place the purchase orderPurchase orders can be sent to the e-mail address ; with the keyword STR stated in the e-mail subject, or by post to our address. For further information please contact the e-mail address mentioned above or call the phone numbers +420 495 056 394 and +420 495 056 151.
Requirements for the materialsThe customer provides isolated genomic DNA of the tested cell line and possibly also original cell lines with confirmed identity (in the amount of 1 µg at the minimum; minimum purity A260/A280 1.8). If the STR profile of the original cell line is published in a publicly accessible database, only the genomic DNA of the tested cell line is sufficient. Upon showing an interest, only pellets of harvested cells may be provided upon agreement, without having to isolate the genomic DNA. |
