Cy5-BBQ650 is a real-time PCR dual-labeled probe with Cy5 fluorophore and BBQ650 dark quencher. It can be used as an alternative to BHQ2 quencher due to its broader absorption spectrum and higher stability. The probe is most commonly used as a Taqman-type hydrolysis probe providing highly sensitive and specific detection of target DNA. It is suitable for multiplex analyses with low background and high signal intensity and is compatible with a wide range of qPCR instruments.

The product is intended for reverse transcription (RT) and real-time PCR (qPCR) performed in one step (in one reaction), i.e. onestep RT-qPCR. No additional instrumentation is required.
Why choose alternative dyes instead of "genuine" dyes? First, they are cheaper, and second, they can give the same results. Another reason is that the number of suppliers who can provide modified oligonucleotides is restricted - only a patent or a licence owner is usually allowed to produce them.
