Today, we commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. While global statistics continue to highlight unequal representation in technical fields, here in Hradec Králové we are writing a very different story — a story in which expertise, molecular biology, and innovation bear women’s names in 89% of cases.
Why Do We Celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science?
This important day, observed on February 11, was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. Its objective is to ensure equal access for women and girls to education and scientific careers and to eliminate barriers in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
How Does the Czech Republic Perform in the Representation of Women in Science?
When examining the data, it is evident that the potential of women in Czech science often remains underutilized.
- Globally: Women account for only 33% of researchers worldwide.
- Czech Republic: The country has long ranked near the bottom among EU member states, with women representing approximately 27–28% of the scientific workforce.
- Biotechnology: Although female representation is higher than in fields such as nuclear physics, it still falls far from a balanced state.
GENERI BIOTECH – A Unique Statistic in the Biotechnology Sector
At GENERI BIOTECH, we move against national and global statistical trends. Currently, 89% of our employees are women. This is not the result of quotas, but rather the natural evolution of a modern biotechnology company that prioritizes talent and precision.
Our female colleagues play a key role throughout the entire lifecycle of our products:
-
Applied Research and Development: Development of diagnostic kits for human medicine.
-
Molecular Genetics: Comprehensive analyses and laboratory testing.
-
Quality Control: Rigorous oversight of standards that are critical in biotechnology.
-
Management and Business Development: Bridging scientific knowledge with market needs.
“Science at our company is not about gender, but about the ability to see connections where others see only data. The strong representation of women within our team brings exceptional precision and an innovative perspective to our work,” says the company’s leadership.
The Future of Women in Biotechnology
Although men represent the remaining 11%, together we form one strong and balanced team. We believe that success in molecular biology and biotechnology depends on an environment that supports talent development regardless of prejudice.
Today is an opportunity for us to thank all our female colleagues. Thanks to you, GENERI BIOTECH ranks among the leaders of the Czech and European markets. Thank you for helping us push the boundaries of modern science.
