Patented dye alternatives

Oligonucleotides and probes labeled with fluorescent dyes are commonly used in a variety of molecular biology methods. Some of the dyes may be patented, often lowering the number of available suppliers and usually also affecting affordability of such oligonucleotides.

However, once a few necessary considerations are made (see the article in the link below), most of the patented dyes can be effectively replaced with more available nad cost-effective alternatives. The table below shows a list of most commonly used patented dyes with corresponding suggested alternatives, all of which can be synthesised in GENERI BIOTECH.

Why choose alternative dyes instead of “genuine” dyes?

ATTO dyes are covered by patents as well, however GENERI BIOTECH is licenced to use them for oligo/probe custom synthesis.
